Strange Beliefs: Edward Evans-Pritchard

a film about Evans-Prichard’s work among the Azande and the Nuer of Central/West Africa. his focus was on what he labeled “witchcraft”, “sorcery”, and “magic” (his book about the Azande and the Nuer). something i think should be noted with certain anthropologists of this time is that many of them were financed and employed by colonial powers for the sole purpose of finding out about a certain group in order to eventually gain some type of economic or political power over them (his work on the Nuer). i think there should be more discussion around questions such as what, exactly, was the role of the anthropologist in colonialism (amateur and professional alike), and how exactly can/has that been resolved?
